Ryan Day won the pole bending shot championship shot against Barry Hawkins. Fair play to him, but to me it had to be that John Higgins doubled to save victory from the jaws of defeat against Mark Allen.
“It’s quite intriguing to watch this finale … mainly because it’s so bad,” writes Andrew Harper. “This has to be one of the worst finishes in Crucible history. Ridiculous amount of unprovoked mistakes from both players throughout the game.”
True, although that’s perhaps to be expected when you have a favorite trying to win his first title against an underdog who has never been in a match of this magnitude. And as previous years have shown, even the best players can melt into the pitiful, pub-level puddle of this arena.
Interval in the middle of the session: Kyren Wilson is in his dressing room, eating fruit, drinking coffee and talking to a man who looks like he came dressed as David Brent. Time for some music; we’ll be back soon to see if and when Wilson can get the job done.
